Scholarship Information

We now have two separate scholarships available.

1. The Armco Credit Union Scholarship will award $15,000 in scholarships to incoming college and vocational school freshmen.

2. The Beaver Valley Chapter of Credit Unions will award five scholarships from $500 to $1,500 to students (incoming or already attending) a college, trade, or technical school.

Please note that each scholarship has different criteria and are awarded by separate organizations. You are welcome to apply for both scholarships if eligibility requirements are met.

Promoting financial health and awareness has always been paramount business for Armco Credit Union.

In the summer of 2018, we started our own scholarship program to help students entering their freshmen year of college/trade school. “What these young people are going to be able to give back to the community is so much farther reaching than what we’ve been able to give to them, but we’re so glad to be a part of their education,” said John Gibson, Vice President of our Board of Directors. The program started by giving a total of $5,000 to 10 deserving students.

With such a successful response to the program, it was an easy decision to continue the program in 2019.

In the summer of 2019, the program was expanded to include 20 students with $10,000 given away in total. With another wave of positive responses and appreciation, the program was voted to continue for the 2019-2020 year with the intent to continue expanding and giving back to the community.

Our Board of Directors recently increased the 2020 scholarship fund to $15,000. Unlike previous years, however, the application and awarding of the scholarships will occur before the end of students’ senior year of high school. We’ve also refined the application process and have replaced letters of recommendation and a lengthy essay with something more practical and useful to the student – a resume. “We feel that simplifying the process and requiring students to create a resume instead of writing an essay provides more long-term value to the student,” Gibson added.
